Tang Dynasty ‘Da Ming Palace’ Historical Background
The concept for the DMG columbaria is based on the ‘actual’ imperial palace complexes of the Tang dynasty (618 – 907 AD) serving as the royal residence for notably notably Emperor Taizong and Wu Jetian (first and only female emperor of China) amongst others.Viewing Chinese history records, you will find that the Tang Dynasty was the most glistening hisotric period in China’s history. The state, under the ruling of the Tang Emperors, became the most powerful and prosperous country in the world. Particularly, in this glorious period, the economy, politics, culture and military strength reached an unparalleled advanced level. With cultural and trade exchanges, the state deepened its relationship with countries like Japan, Korea and countries of Arab and South East Asia. This resulted in the migration of the Chinese people to the different corners of the known world to ply their trades. As a result, the Chinese are also known as the ‘tangren’, meaning ‘people of Tang’ in Mandarin. This legacy has continued till today as many Chinese worldwide still regard themselves as ‘tangren’.
